The Nordic countries come to Vyborg!
Vyborg hosts the Nordic Weeks the first time from 2 till 13 October 2013. The program consists of events arranged by five countries – Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, as well as the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The geographical location and longstanding neighborly relations create a basis for close cooperation between North-West Russia and Northern Europe benefitting the whole region. The programme of the Nordic Weeks in Vyborg includes events both for general public, as well as for professionals.
Sweden and Norway will present “Ullmann – Bergman” photo exhibition in Vyborg Castle. It is a unique collection of photographs from the life and work of director Ingmar Bergman and actress Liv Ullmann, as well as their movies. A large part of the material will be for the first time shown to the public. The Literature Day is planned for Wednesday 2 October. Authors from three countries will be presented. Denmark will present the author Kirsten Thorup for high school and university students. Her book Bonsai has been translated into Russian, and this year she is one of the nominees of the project “Reading St. Petersburg 2013: best foreign writer”. The Finnish authors of the popular series about the ever curios Tatu and Patu, will meet their young readers in Alvar Aalto Library (Department No. 1) (Sportivnaya Str. 10). Nоrway will present Nina Grøntvedt, author of the teen novel “Hey it’s me!”.
The Finnish cities of Lappeenranta and Imatra have prepared different sporting, cultural and educational events within the frames of the “Step Up” project. On 8 October the “South Karelia Day” will be organized, during which participants will be able to attend a presentation of entrepreneurship and tourism opportunities in the region, as well as acquire tourist materials on the region and the Nordic countries – Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Business programe included the final conference of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ project on cross-border cooperation “NotaBENe” within the frames of the Knowledge Building and Networking Programme for North-West Russia.
The Nordic Week in Vyborg are supported by the Administration of Vyborg region of Leningrad Oblast and is a joint initiative of the Information Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers in St. Petersburg, the Consulates General of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland in St. Petersburg, the Embassy of Iceland in Russia, the Danish Cultural Institute and the Institute of Finland in St Petersburg.
