Opening of Alvar Aalto library
On 23 November 2013 after restoration Alvar Aalto Library opened its doors again.
Central Library was designed by Alvar Aalto and built in 1935. It is a masterpiece of International Modernism and in 1995 Alvar Aalto Library was included to the Russian Federation’s List of Objects of Historical and Cultural Value.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov, former President of Finland Tarja Halonen, Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko.
The event was also attended by daughter and son of Alvar Aalto, representatives from Finnish side and inhabitants of Vyborg.
From the Russian Federation budget for restoration of the Vyborg library has been allocated more than 255 million rubles.
