Third Russian GRAND PRIX “Ice Sculpture 2013”

Will be held under the auspices of the Cultural Olympiad "Sochi 2014"

Kargopol - Vyborg - St. Petersburg – Moscow - Sochi    (16 - 30 January 2013)

From the 19th till 22th of January    2013 the Third Russian GRAND PRIX “Ice Sculpture 2013” will pass on the Red  square of Vyborg named as «World history. The epoch of knights ».

 

Traditionally, the competition is held in several federal districts.  The preliminary stage of the Grand Prix was held December 8, 2012 in St. Petersburg as part of the Days of the Hermitage.

Stage I    -        Kargopol           16 – 18 January 2013

Stage II   -        Vyborg              20  -  22 January 2013

Stage III  -        Moscow            24  -  26  January 2013

Stage IV  -        Sochi                 28  – 30 January  2013      FINAL

 

    The status of Russian Grand Prix on Ice Sculpture is comparable to the Olympic Games.  Russian winners of the World Championships in Alaska and the winners of the most prestigious festivals in Harbin (China), Sapporo and Asahikawa (Japan) are among the selected participants.

   At home, especially in the European part of Russia, these sculptors are well know and seen often.

 

    The main task of the contest -  is selection and building of a top Russian sculptors team to participate in the Winter Arts Festival. 

    Juhani Lillberg,  the President of the International Association of snow and ice sculptures (Finland), the ideologist and organizer of the Olympic Ice Sculpting Contest since 1988  will make a report on a  press conference "The History of Olympic Ice Sculpting Contest»

 

    Russian Grand Prix will provides an opportunity to the sculptor - artists to show their skills on the main board of Russia - Moscow Red Square,  to create their works in the Central Museum of the country - the State Historical Museum, participate in the creation of vernissage, dedicated to one of the key historical dates in 2013 in Russia  -  the "400th  anniversary of Romanov dynasty".

 

Only 3 winners will go to Sochi!

 

Judging of the competition will be of a mixed type:  jury + jury of contestants (except their own work) + jury of sculptors - fans (Finland) + viewership rating.  In case of dispute the President of the jury will have the casting vote.  Thus, the bias officiating will be expelled.

 

  The project is supposed to attract residents and visitors of Kargopol, Vyborg, St. Petersburg, Moscow and  Sochi  not only to the art of ice sculpture, but also as a healthy way of life, because creating of an ice sculptures  is a sport plus art,  where participants can suggest and provide  their philosophy.

 

  At each stage of the Grand Prix, city residents will be able to participate in judging.  The Audience     award, based on audience voting will be awarded.
